Senior Women’s T20 Trophy: Bowlers, batter shine as Goa thrash Assam by 71 runs

Raipur (Chhattisgarh) [India], October 19, 2025: In a commanding display of skill, the Goa Women’s Cricket Team outclassed Assam by 71 runs in the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy Elite clash held at the RDCA Ground, Raipur on Sunday. The match witnessed some stellar batting performances from Goa’s top order, followed by disciplined bowling that dismantled Assam’s chase well inside 17 overs.

Batting first, Goa set a formidable total of 166/3 in 20 overs, thanks to sensational knocks from their young batters. Harshita Yadav, only 17 years old, played a mature and fluent innings of 58 runs off 46 balls, striking nine fours and displaying elegant stroke play.

At the other end, Purvaja P Verlekar was equally impressive, hammering 56 runs off 40 deliveries, decorated with five fours and three sixes. The duo’s 100+ partnership set the perfect platform for Goa’s innings.

Later, Sunanda contributed a quickfire 37 off 22 balls, maintaining Goa’s momentum in the final overs, while Sanjula Sudhakar Naik (13* off 11) ensured the side finished strong at 166/3.

Chasing a challenging target, Assam faltered early under pressure from Goa’s bowling attack. Despite brief resistance from Khushi Sharma (18 off 18), Gayatri Gurung (17 off 14) and Maina Narah (16 off 13), none could convert their starts into a match-changing innings.

Goa’s bowlers maintained tight lines, with Tanaya Naik being the pick of the attack, claiming 3 crucial wickets, while Sunanda and Poorva Bhaidkar chipped in with two wickets each. Assam eventually crumbled for 95 runs in 16.5 overs, handing Goa a thumping 71-run victory.

Harshita Yadav was deservedly named the Player of the Match, receiving a ₹10,000 prize for her brilliant half-century.

With this emphatic win, Goa Women continue to build momentum in the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy, showcasing a promising blend of young talent and experienced composure.
