Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], October 16, 2025: Bengaluru Torpedoes defeated the Calicut Heroes 20-18, 20-18, 7-15, 11-15, 15-12 in the RR Kabel Prime Volleyball League powered by Scapia at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium, Hyderabad on Wednesday. Calicut’s Shameemudheen was named the Player of the Match.
Indian Badminton star H.S Prannoy was also in attendance, witnessing Bengaluru Torpedoes claim the first two sets but the Calicut Heroes responded by clawing back two sets however, Bengaluru Torpedoes fought back in the last set to claim the victory while Calicut had to settle with their first point of the season.
At the start, Sethu TR lead the charge for the Torpedoes with drop shots while a team effort from Calicut kept them ahead. Trading super points, both teams remained close, but a thunderous super serve from Sethu TR handed the Torpedoes the first set despite the team’s unforced errors.
Calicut’s Sivanesan opened some breathing room in the second set with his serves but Jalen Penrose began firing at the net to keep the Torpedoes in touch. As the set went deep into deuce again, Santosh’s spikes were matched by Sethu’s hot hand. Joel Benjamin went on to power through a double wall to seal the tense second set in the Torperdoes’ favour.
Tharusha Chamath stepped up for the Heroes to give them a slight lead again in the third set, aided by Vikas Maan’s dominance at the net. Shameem’s blocking prowess came to the fore in time, and Santosh S converted the super point to comfortably pull back a set for the Heroes.
Calicut carried the momentum into the fourth set as Shameemudheen continued to shut down the Torpedoes attackers while Santosh and Tharusha evaded the blockers. Service errors continued to haunt the Torpedoes and the Heroes capitalised by claiming the fourth set.
Both teams went point for point in the last set with Joel powering the Torpedoes while Tharusha and Shameemudheen scored for the Heroes. With nothing to separate the teams towards the end, Jalen’s power spike helped seal the hard fought victory for the Torpedoes.
